ILTY Is on Android Now. Here's What Took So Long.
In crisis? Call or text 988 — Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free and 24/7.
ILTY has been on Google Play since August 15, 2026. If you were on the waitlist, the app you voted for exists now. Get it here.
That's the announcement. The rest of this is the part most launch posts skip: what took eleven months, what's actually in the build, and what I'd want to know if I were you.
The honest reason it took so long
I said in the original Android post that we'd build it when enough people asked, and that the waitlist was how we'd measure that. That was true, and it's what happened.
But "we were waiting for demand" is only half the answer. The other half is that a second platform is not a port. It's a second codebase, a second store review process, a second billing integration, a second set of device-specific bugs, and a second thing that breaks at 2am. Doing it badly would have been faster and worse.
So the Android app is not a wrapper around a website. It's a native Kotlin app with its own data layer, built to match what iOS does rather than approximate it.
What's actually in it
Not a roadmap. This is what shipped and what's running on real devices:
- All five companions, including Ember, which reached production on August 26. Mr. Relentless is still the one most people talk to, and still the one who will tell you something you didn't want to hear.
- Seven languages, with app-controlled locale switching rather than whatever your phone happens to be set to.
- Encrypted local storage. Conversations live in a local database encrypted with SQLCipher, and the key is wrapped by the Android Keystore. They are not sitting in a cloud table with your name on them.
- Five home-screen widgets, built on Glance.
- Fourteen notification types, which re-arm correctly after a reboot, a timezone change, or a locale change. This sounds boring. It is the difference between a reminder that arrives and one that silently doesn't.
- Account deletion that actually deletes. Local data and auth, wiped. If it fails partway, the app tells you it failed instead of pretending.
- 485 unit tests, zero failures at time of writing.
The companion prompts, personalities, and safety keyword sets are asserted byte-identical to the iOS versions by a test that fails the build if they drift. That was deliberate: the fastest way to end up with two different products under one name is to let the two platforms quietly diverge on the words the companions actually say.
What I'm not going to claim
A few things, because you'll find them out anyway:
This is not a "better than iOS" story or a "worse than iOS" story. The Android build was written to parity. Where the two differ, it's because the platforms differ, not because one got the B team.
ILTY is not therapy, and it is not a crisis service. It never has been. If you're in danger right now, call or text 988 in the US, or find your local crisis line. An app that talks to you is not the same thing as a person who can come and get you, and I'd rather say that here than have you discover it at the wrong moment.
We don't publish clinical outcome claims, because we haven't run the studies that would justify them. You will see other apps in this category open with a percentage on a chart. Ask them where the study is. We'd rather be the ones with nothing to show than the ones with a number and no citation.
What it costs
Free to download, with a 7-day free trial. After that it's a subscription, and the price is on the store listing where you can see it before you commit to anything. There's no metered free tier that runs out mid-sentence.
That last point is not a throwaway. We recently tested how eleven AI mental health apps behave in a hard conversation, and one of them ran out of free messages at the exact moment it mattered most. A free tier that expires when you need it is worse than an honest paywall. So we don't have one.
If you're switching from iOS
Nothing transfers automatically. Conversations are encrypted on your device by design, which is the same reason they can't quietly follow you to a new phone. Your account and subscription are tied to the store you bought them from, so an App Store subscription doesn't carry to Google Play.
If that's a problem for you, tell us and we'll figure it out with you rather than pointing at a policy.
Frequently asked
Is ILTY on Android free? Free to download, with a 7-day free trial. After the trial it's a paid subscription. No ads, and no free tier that cuts you off in the middle of a conversation.
Is the Android app the same as the iOS app? Built to parity, including all five companions, seven languages, widgets, and the companion prompts themselves, which are enforced identical by an automated test. Platform-specific behaviour differs where Android and iOS differ.
Where are my conversations stored on Android? In a local database on your device, encrypted with SQLCipher, with the key held in the Android Keystore. More detail on the privacy page.
Does ILTY work offline? The companions need a connection to respond, because the model runs remotely. Your history, insights, and widgets work without one.
Was there really a waitlist? Yes, and it decided this. Everyone on it has been emailed. The original post is still up, unedited, including the part where the answer was no.
If you've been waiting on this: thanks for waiting, and sorry it took a while. It's here.
And if you're deciding whether it's for you at all, the comparison pages are more useful than this post. They're the ones where we say what ILTY isn't.
