It works with no signal
Panic on a plane. A bad hour on the subway. A dead zone two hours from anywhere. The moments you most need something are often the moments you have no bars, and almost every app in this category is a loading spinner then.
Why this exists
Anxiety does not check your connection first. Some of the worst hours happen exactly where the signal is not: in the air, underground, in a hospital basement, in a rented car somewhere rural, on a phone with no data left three days before payday.
This is where most mental-health apps quietly stop being apps. They are a thin shell around a server, so with no bars you get a spinner, an error, or a screen that never loads. The one time you needed it to be simple, it needs the internet.
How it works
The practices and the meditations are on your phone, not on our server. All 19 toolkit practices and all seven meditations play with the connection off, because the audio and the instructions ship inside the app rather than streaming.
The companion conversation does need a connection, because the model runs remotely, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What happens instead is that you can still write. Anything you leave while offline is held on the device, and when you have signal again your companion picks it up and replies to it, in one message that takes in everything you left rather than a stack of disconnected notes.
Your history, your insights and your widgets all work offline too, since conversations are stored on the device in the first place.
What you actually get
19 toolkit practices, all offline
Physiological sigh, box breathing, 4-7-8 breathing, 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, panic wave, anger spike, tension release, name it to tame it, overwhelm triage, worry window, rumination interrupt, loneliness reach, action sprint, sleep wind-down, three gratitudes, catch the thought, worst/best/likely, values compass, friend voice.
7 guided meditations, all offline
2:56 to 4:47 each, narrated by whichever of the five companions you pick, in seven languages. The audio is bundled, not streamed.
Write now, get a reply later
Notes left without a connection are stored on-device and delivered to your companion when you reconnect, answered as one message rather than several.
Crisis resources work offline too
If something you write offline reads as a crisis, the care response is shown at the moment you write it, from fixed text with no model call, with the helpline for your region.
What it isn’t
- The companion cannot reply while you are offline. The model runs on a server, and any app claiming a real conversation with no connection is either wrong or running something much smaller than it implies.
- Meditations and practices are bundled with the app, so the download is larger than a thin client's. That is the trade for them working in a tunnel.
- Offline does not mean anonymous. It means the content is local. What our servers hold when you are online is set out on the privacy page.

Frequently asked
Does ILTY work on a plane?
The meditations, the breathing practices and the grounding exercises do, with the connection off entirely. The companion conversation does not, because the model runs remotely — but you can write while you are up there and your companion answers it when you land.
Do I need to download anything first?
No. The practices and meditation audio come with the app, so there is no 'download for offline' step to remember before a flight.
What happens to what I write when I have no signal?
It is stored on your device and delivered when you reconnect. Your companion replies to everything you left as a single message rather than a series of disconnected answers.
Does the crisis support work without a connection?
Yes. If something you write offline reads as a crisis, the care response appears immediately, from fixed text rather than a model call, with the helpline for your region. That path was built specifically so it cannot depend on a network.
